My Journey to The Shack
ambuhlinn:
I didn't stumble upon this book by regular means. In fact, my mother threw the book at me after I had a weird "experience" that I told her about.
We were making our way, by car, from Michigan to South Carolina. This 14+ hour trip usually left a lot of time for sleeping, reading, and more sleeping. While I was sleeping, I had this odd dream. One that I can honestly say I have NEVER had in my life. In my dream, I found a letter on the street that had a single white feather attached to it. I read the letter and realized that it had come from God, though it wasn't inviting me to my own personal shack. He was just asking how I was. Making sure everything in my life was ok, that i was happy and feeling content. I wrote him back, and our correspondence continued throughout the remainder of the dream. That's really all that took place in the dream. Me and God writing letters to each other. Each of his would come to me the same way: floating from the sky, the white feather gracefully floating along with it. I can't remember everything we talked about now, but I remember waking up happy and well-rested (I had only been asleep about an hour and a half) when we stopped to pick up some things before we passed the state line. I told my mom about the dream and she got very excited, bought the book and told me I had to read it.
As I read it, I cried a lot. I haven't been to church in over three years for multiple reasons, most of which were many attender's attitudes about themselves and other's around them. So I just gave up on church; not so much on God, but as the years progressed I felt as if I was drifting further from him. This book really made me realize a lot of things about religion and relationships that no church I've been to has ever stressed.

Hello Ambuhlinn, welcome to the forum :)
God does have very unique ways of getting us to read this book, doesn't He! I'm so glad your mom threw it at you :)

Wow, cool dream. I know you said you don't remember everything about your dream, and that's ok. It will come to you when you most need it. Welcome to the forum. I hope you feel free to share here. I have kept journals all my life, they help me think and find out about myself. But these days, I'm using this forum as a sort of journal writing. Jotting down my thought process and such :)
Hope to get to know more about you.
What did you like the most about The Shack?
I've met many people who associate God with religion and religion with the institutionalize church. After years of getting hurt, they just "give up on church" and wonder if they have also given up on God.
But the neat thing is that God never gives up on us! He is always persuing us with His love. He understands where we are and meets us there, no need for changing... Just accepting His love. :)
The Shack does a wonderful job showing us how God is always with us, even in the most painful times of our lives. Hope you can keep posting.
