I've made a list of all the people I'd like to give the book to!  I can't wait to share it with others.  I can't wait to talk to my Mom about it.  She said she hated it but she recommended it to me?  I'm wondering if she is saying that to stay neutral.  She is Director of Education at our church.

I don't mean to sound stupid but can you tell me why the book is banned in some churches?  Why is it that we are taught not to think outside the box?  Is it just safer for people in power to keep us under control if the dictate what we should and shouldn't think?  I believe that I have been blessed to have been raised Catholic because we are taught to be opened to the mystery of God in everything, including ways to make a stronger relationship with God like meditation, contemplative prayer and prayer with those who have past. (the last one alone will get you reprimanded at the least in most churches)  I love my Church because I love the people there and yes they don't all believe the way I do or all think the way I do but we do all agree on excepting that.  Catholic does mean universal.

I like to hear what the rest of you feel about this subject.  I'm opened to learning more.

Hey again Mimi  Smiley   This is only my take on it, but I think that some churches feel that the book is blasphemous, as it makes Papa and Jesus seem totally approachable and "human-like", if you will.

As I said, that is just my opinion.

I find that odd.  I feel closest to God in my personal prayer with Him.  I call Him Daddy.  I've been praying this way for years.  Since I went through some very difficult times in 2001.  Is that wrong?  I guess that depends on who you ask.

And can you tell me this, is The Shack a true story?  Missy a real little girl that was abducted?  I guess real is as real as your experience.  It doesn't matter then if the story is true.

OK, I just read from Mr. Harshman's post a couple of days ago that there indeed is a "real version" of the book.  So "The Shack" is fiction.  Is Missy real?

Listened to the lecture you recommended, pretty great stuff!

Well, I admit that I haven't been praying for long, as I have never known Papa until I read this book!!  But I call Him Daddy too, so if it's wrong, then we are both wrong, lol!

And no, it isn't a true story, although it is based on a lot of truths.  You should google Paul Young's life story - it makes the book a whole lot more special!!

Hello Mimi.
I also have read and heard that the shack is evil. I feel the reason is faith leaders have controlled  so long they are afraid of the church finding out the truth and how many have been missled and people are questioning the leaders and they  want answers.
I have seen so many faiths are controlled by the leaders and the church is a puppet. The shack may be fiction but to over millions it is more truth than the bible. One thing I love to say is it costs me nothing to be one in one with the trinty. We love you our sister.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not discounting what the book has done for me or anyone else. I'm thrilled that so many people are moved by a work of fiction that rings true.  It's not an issue, just a question.  Mr Harshman recommended I read the story of Paul Young's life which is fact.  I plan on looking into it because I want to see what's behind "The Shack"  So many of us can relate to "The Shack" because of our true stories and need to find some sense and place in this world.  What better place than the arms of love?  That's the thing that's so amazing!

Mimi,
I think you can just type in Mr. Young's name and read a bunch about him on the internet.  I went to a church about a hundred miles from my home to hear him speak and it was a very powerful testimony that he gave about his life growing up as a missionary kid.  A lot of the story of The Shack seems to be based on a lot of things that happened to him in his real life but it isn't exactly autobiographical, therefore it is fiction.  While I was reading it even though I had read it was fiction, it seemed real to me and I found myself confused about the wreck, the shack experience, the note in the mailbox, etc., etc.  I wondered if he was just dreaming or did these things that happened with his meeting Papa, Jesus and Sarayu (sp?) really happen, Missy's abduction and rape and murder, him coming out of the coma and many many more things.  That led me to this forum where I've learned what others thought different things meant and met so many wonderful people who have been blessed so much by the book and reacting together on the forum.
There were 3 of us who read the book about the same time and then discussed it at length.  Each of us saw things differently at times but each received special gems from reading it and discussing.  Very much like reading the Bible to me and discussing it in Sunday School and Bible studies.  I am glad you are here and that your recovery from surgery goes very well for you.  Look forward to visiting with you in the future.
Welcome,
Wandaw
