I Can See Clearly...

Son of Adam:
Hi there Georgia in MN, and welcome to Shackland and the wonderful loving family that is here.  Look around and if you have any questions at all about the book just post them or you can PM me.  I was a pastor for over 30 years and I will help you in any way I can.  Also don't worry about the critics.  They dwell on certain passages and actually misread the book quite often.  Thus allowing them to think that there is heresy within its pages, but there isn't.  There may be some things there that shake you a bit, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

You do just that Georgia - get comfortable and enjoy the ride  :D

God is love:
Welcome Georgia,

So very sorry to hear of your mom passing, I wondered the same things that you did when my father passed away. I like you had a rough childhood, but at 35 years old I finally have forgiven those people who hurt me, and have peace within my heart. This book had a huge impact in my journey of healing:) I believe that your Mom and my Dad, are in God's loving presence at this very moment. I do take comfort in knowing that when my time comes my Dad will be there with open arms for me. My dad was my rock, he meant the world to me, just like your Mom did to you. If I may recommend a book for you to read. It is called 90 minutes in heaven, it is a true story of Don Piper an ordained minister, who was hit by a semi that crossed into his lane. He was killed instantly. He spent 90 minutes in heaven and came back to talk about it. Ninety minutes after the wreck a minister prayed for him and he miraculously returned to life on earth. He went through a grueling recovery, and at times his faith was terribly shaken, but it is a true account that heaven really exists and we can take peace in knowing that. Again welcome and look forward in talking to you. Have a blessed day.

Love your Sister in Christ,

Candida

sheryl and Jesus:
Hi Georgia,

Thank you for sharing your story. It was very touching. I have not lost my parents yet, but they are growing older and I (sadly) think about it from time to time. I am glad that your mother was able to break her addiction and live the rest of her life addiction free. Praise God! He freed me from the addiction to cigarettes. Something I could not do on my own, although I tried many many times.

Like you, I am not attending church right now. I stopped attending a couple of weeks before Easter and have not been back since. I liked the author's take on the church and institutions in general. I have walked around with a heavy load of guilt since April for not going to church, but in some ways the book freed me from that guilt. I have never left Jesus, not since my transformation, but I have left a string of churches.

I just don't feel comfortable in churches. I feel like I don't belong. I have always been nervous around crowds, and I think God understands that. Don't get me wrong. I love to worship God corporately, but so often it's not about worshiping God. It becomes a forum for elevating some person.

Well, I just wanted to stop in and let you know I read your post and thank you for sharing.

Sheryl

Hey Sheryl - you may benefit from reading a book called "So you don't want to go to church anymore" by Wayne Jacobsen.  Son of Adam recommended it to me and I absolutely loved it!!
